The picture above so perfectly fits and describes my story—uphill, downhill, round and round, exciting, and scary, bright spots and dark spots. My “joyful journey” has sometimes been an amazing thrill ride and sometimes just a big downward spiral! But, the emotional, mental, and physical struggles are all part of the story, and through it all, I see clear reflections of God’s amazing grace.

Just out for a Sunday drive

and ended up in Detroit! (Detroit, Oregon, that is)We forgot to take our camera along, so this picture was taken with my cell phone -- not exactly top-quality, but at least better than nothing.

This is an area called Detroit Lakes (about 75 miles from home)-- quite a variety of beautiful rivers and lakes all connected together. Looking at this glassy-calm, serenly-quiet waterway, you would never guess how different the river looks in other spots. We took a walk along one stretch of wild and wooly white water, and reminisced about the time we dumped our canoe and nearly drowned (on a different river, in the state of Washington), in February of 1998. You never forget an experience like that, and you hope to never experience it again!
